Summer in the city – popsicles melting in the heat, subway rides to Coney Island, and sunny days with friends and family. And of course, reading books! For me, nothing beats taking some time in the sun to catch up on reading. Books go with you everywhere! From the beach to the pool, on planes, trains, and automobiles, a good book is your boon companion.
Wondering what to read with your child? I’ve put together suggested summer reading lists. These are some of my favorite new books (and a few classics) that are exciting, entertaining, and appropriate for each grade. Each list is targeted to themes and ideas that your classroom teachers will be exploring next year. Find the lists in the right column of the library page.
Your local public library is an excellent place to obtain titles and, if you’d like to purchase books, our friends at Greenlight Bookstore have once again partnered with the library to donate a percentage of online summer reading sales to the WNS library. Books can be purchased online and sent to the store or your summer home. http://www.
No matter how you get your books, make sure to incorporate reading into your summer! And don’t forget to pick up a few books for yourself. I’ve got Michael Chabon’s Moonglow on my list, along with Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.
For inspiration, see our summer haiku in the library window, visible from the BQE.
Summer’s here again
Time to catch up on those books
Where’d I put that list?
