Binta Diallo

Preschool 3’s Teacher

At Northside since 2015

CUNY at Brooklyn College, BA

My Primary Roles at Northside:

Head Teacher

Most Memorable Moment at Northside:

Staff pumpkin carving competition!

Favorite Job Perk:

All of those holidays! (Hey! You’re the one who asked what my favorite perk was)

Between You And Me (Hardly Anyone Knows That):

English is my 3rd language. (Fulani (West African dialect) is my first and French is my second).

What I Wanted To Be When I Grew Up (At Age 10):

A ballet dancer… then an actress…then a Pilot… then Pediatrician.

What I Want To Be When I Grow Up (Now):

Whatever it is, it will involve children and cooking. I’m currently working on a children’s cookbook!

Favorite Place In The Neighborhood:

Croxley Abbey (yeah it’s a restaurant-go figure…my relationship with food is a bit insane) or Williamsburg Cinemas.

My Desert Island EDC (The handful of things you cannot live without):

Tea (whole leaf green tea preferably), a good book, and bread (this is actually my kryptonite)

I Knew I Wanted To Work At Northside When:

I observed children diving into projects that they were actually interested in – opposed to having the alphabet and numbers drilled into them because “they’re supposed to know it” by a certain point. Children taking charge of their own learning truly makes my heart smile.

I Am An Educator Because:

I understand children, and they understand me, and together we have an awesome time learning from one another.

If I Weren’t In The Classroom I’d Be:

Working as a play therapist.

Favorite Book:

The Alchemist and Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Favorite TV Show:

Real Time With Bill Maher!
