Today I’m pleased to introduce you to Anna Messing, our 1st Grade Head Teacher. This year is Anna’s sixth year teaching first grade at Williamsburg Northside. Before joining WNS, she taught at a progressive Jewish day school in Boston and at a public elementary school in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. While living in Baltimore, she pursued a Masters in Teaching at Goucher College while running an online vintage clothing business. Anna has always been passionate about creating and enjoying art. She studied printmaking and painting at Bennington College in Vermont, and is still an avid photographer and ceramicist.
Anna blends her knowledge of childhood development and education with her artistic sensibilities to create a unique experience for her students. No project is too big – whether it is designing a working model subway station, putting on a real farmer’s market, or creating a detailed pizza parlor in the block area, Anna finds a way for students to bring their visions to life and demonstrate their learning with a level of sophistication that delights and surprises everyone who encounters it.
