Middle School Placement Program
Williamsburg Northside School offers an extensive Middle School Placement Program which begins in the spring of the 4th Grade year.
4th Grade families attend a meeting with the Head of Schools, Head of Lower School, and Director of Middle School Placement to discuss the 5th Grade year, and how to begin researching schools that may be a good fit for each family. Each family also receives a complete guide to NYC public and private schools. The Director of Middle School Placement meets with each family on an individual basis and creates a customized list of schools that may suit each family’s program interests. Some families may choose to continue with ongoing progressive private or more traditional private schools, while other families may decide to apply for selective public, charter or other public middle schools that receive high ratings. Either way, we support all of our families and help them to navigate the application process for both public and private schools.
For those students interested in continuing in private schools, we offer an after school ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) prep class in the Fall. Many independent schools require this test as part of the middle school admissions process.
In the fall of the 5th Grade year, each student is assigned to a member of our faculty who will be his/her advisor for the remainder of the school year. The advisors meet with their advisees monthly. The Advisory Program is designed to support and prepare our 5th Grade students for what may lie ahead as they move on to Middle School. Advisors also assist in planning graduation and occasional 5th grade lunches as a way to enhance and unite the community.
