We are strongly committed to ensuring that a student’s ability to access a first-rate education should never be limited by their family’s ability to pay full tuition.
Deciding to enroll at Northside is a significant financial commitment for any family, and it’s representative of a desire to invest wisely in a child’s future.
We are fortunate to be able to offer a very generous financial aid program to the families that join our community, and we strive to do our absolute best to put a Northside education within reach of the entire socioeconomic spectrum of New York City. We do this because we firmly believe that to prepare young people to meet the demands of an unpredictable tomorrow, we must challenge them to consider perspectives other than their own today.

Financial Aid FAQs
WHAT GRADE LEVELS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL AID?
We are pleased to announce that for the 2018-2019 school year, we have expanded our financial aid program to include Pre-K, the primary entry point into our Lower School. The change to our financial aid policy underscores our continued dedication to building the most inclusive community possible. We encourage all interested families with children entering Pre-K through Grade 6 to apply for financial aid. Every application for financial assistance is given individual attention and handled with complete confidentiality.
HOW IS A FAMILY’S FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION DETERMINED?
The Financial Aid Committee uses the SSS methodology to determine what a family might reasonably be expected to contribute toward educational expenses. This formula considers income, assets, and expenses of both the students and the parents. The total amount available from a family for education costs is divided among all children attending tuition-charging schools. This includes day care costs, other independent school tuitions, as well as college and university tuitions. It excludes graduate school tuition for dependents.
WILL APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID AFFECT MY CHILD’S CHANCES FOR ADMISSION?
Northside aims to accept students on their own qualifications without regard to their family’s financial resources. Accordingly, financial considerations shouldn’t deter anyone from applying for admission to Northside, and are in fact an important step when considering how to make our school work for your family.
WHAT IF I’M SEPARATED, DIVORCED, OR NEVER MARRIED?
The Financial Aid Committee considers the financial resources of both parents and any stepparents. Both the custodial and non-custodial parents are required to complete financial aid applications. If the non-custodial parent has no involvement in the child’s life, a letter from a third party is required to waive this requirement.
WHAT IF WE DON'T NEED AID THIS YEAR, BUT THINK WE MIGHT IN THE FUTURE?
Families who enroll at Northside paying full tuition are expected to continue doing so throughout their child’s time at the School. Barring a significant change in financial circumstances, families should not plan to apply for aid if they haven’t done that as part of their initial application to the School.
WILL MY CHILD'S FINANCIAL AID AWARD CHANGE FROM YEAR TO YEAR?
Awards are made on a year-to-year basis. Families need to reapply annually if they are seeking continued aid. However, unless there is a significant change in family circumstance, a family can expect that awards will remain constant. Increases in tuition costs are typically shared by the family and Northside.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
The process of applying for financial aid at Northside runs parallel to our admission process, but they are, by design, two separate applications with varying deadlines that should be noted.
During the Application Process
Indicate your interest in exploring the aid process by checking the Financial Aid box on our application. Families that select this option will automatically be sent a link to our partners at School & Student Services from the National Association of Independent Schools. Parents seeking to learn more about the SSS process prior to completing the Northside application can visit their site here.
For New & Returning Families
- Complete and submit the online Parents’ Financial Statement form by December 15, 2017.
- Complete and submit any and all documents specified on the SSS application by December 18, 2017.
Please pay special attention to the financial aid deadlines listed above, as Northside will always give priority to the families that have completed their paperwork on time. While it is not impossible to receive an aid package post-deadline, Northside will be limited in what it can offer families after these dates have past.
