In 2014, the Lower School moved into its new home at 299 North 7th Street. This expansive building (35000 square foot) offers our program the space, light, and amenities to provide the most exciting program possible for our students. Drenched in sunlight, each classroom space is designed to feel like home for our students and faculty. Rooms and spaces are filled with plants, soft seating, ambient lighting, and arranged in a configuration that allows for autonomy among the community members that use each space. Each classroom begins the year as a blank canvas, filling with documentation and reflecting the learning as it transpires, creating an environment that serves as the third teacher.
This impressive building also boasts a middle-school regulation sized gymnasium, an indoor flexible space and outdoor terraces spaces with breathtaking views for physical education classes and gross motor development. A warm library with an expansive and growing collection of books, periodicals, and online resources is available to our students and families before, during, and after school. The large art studio is light filled and opens onto one of the terraces for observation and materials explorations complemented by a materials center where makers can find materials to implement their designs. A dedicated space for Science and STEAM experiences is a place for experimentation, inquiry, and discovery equipped with tables, sinks, and space to employ the scientific process at each grade level. Classroom space is dedicated to world language instruction for Kindergarten- 5th Grade students. The percussion ensemble meets in a music space that is shared by our PreK – Grade 2 music classes. All of our lower school students gather in our cafeteria for lunch each day and step out on to the wrap around terrace after eating.
